National Night Out is one of the top five crime-prevention strategies in America. Established in 1984, its purpose is to build bridges between law enforcement and the communities they serve. Many police officers work in isolation, and mostly interact with people in trouble. This is a chance for them to meet the law-abiding public they serve.

For the most part, National Night Out is held on the first Tuesday in August. In 2019, that’s August, 6th. In Texas and a few other places, because of the summer heat, National Night Out is held on the first Tuesday in October. In 2019, that’s October 1st. It’s important to check your local listings. For instance, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, has it’s events on Wednesday August 7th.
