Will you share my personal information?
We will not. We will not sell any information about you such as your name and address, and we will not sell the information about the items you record on the database. We will never do any data analysis of your possessions. You’ll notice when you order our product that there is no fine print to review and “accept.” Our service is focused exclusively on providing customers with a police-validated security system.
How are payments secured?
Credit card security is important to us. Not only do we not keep a record of your credit card, our site has no access to credit card information. The financial transaction is a pass-through that is encrypted and managed by Stripe, a global leader in eCommerce.
Can the police access my account?
The police cannot access your account. If you have been burglarized, it is up to you to file a crime report and print out or email the ID tag numbers and inventory records of the stolen items to your local law enforcement agency. There are a few extreme cases, as set out in our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, where, with a very narrow scope, probable cause, and a court order, we are obligated to share information with law enforcement professionals.
Do serial numbers have any value?
Currency and automobiles have serial numbers for all to see. Serial numbers have no value except to the rightful owner. Serial numbers are used by the police as evidence to arrest and convict criminals.
How do I find my cell phone serial number?
It’s a pain, but the good news is you only have to enter these numbers once. Every mobile phone has an International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number. The IMEI is listed on the box of a new phone. On an Android, it can usually be found under Settings > System > About Phone > Status. If there is a serial number, record that too. Every Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card has a Integrated Circuit Card Identifier (ICCID). If you’d like, record that too. For Apple devices, go to https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204073
If I don't enter serial numbers am I still protected?
Entering in the serial numbers is an important part of the system. Nonetheless, a Good Samaritan can return lost items because the ID tag is pre-activated and tied to your account the moment you place your order. A cop might catch a burglar red-handed with the asset tag still attached.
Can I remove I.D. tags?
The secret sauce that solves crimes is your record of serial numbers which you hand over to the police when you file a police report. With that said, ID tags are not designed to be easily removed. The adhesive on the back takes 7 full days to cure, and once fully adhered, the tags will not easily come off. The same is true of the exterior warning labels.
What does 'pre-activated' mean?
Pre-activated means your ID tags are automatically tied to your account the moment you place your order. This is the magic of the web. When you place your order, unique ID tag numbers are assigned to you. Those ID tags with those same numbers are then mailed to you.
Do I have to type in the I.D. tag numbers?
Our ID tag numbers are pre-activated. The numbers are pre-loaded onto your privacy-protected database. This is a big time-saver and convenience. To help the police, just log into your account to add the make, model and serial number. Don’t forget to post warning signs.
What are commercial-grade I.D. tags?
Our ID tags are manufactured by a global leader in inventory management and loss control. The tags are armored on the surface and use an industrial adhesive on the back. They are similar in strength to registration labels on license plates. Our ID tags are the size of return address labels each with a unique number automatically linked to your online account the instant your order is complete.
What is included in the kit?
The security kit contains commercial-grade ID tags the size of return address labels each with a unique number embedded in it. The ID tags are automatically pre-activated and linked to your online account the instant you submit your order. You also get warning labels for doors, windows, cars and larger portable valuables.
What can I adhere my I.D. tags to?
ID tags should be applied to smooth plastic and metal surfaces and allowed to cure for 7 days. They are designed for televisions, computers, smart phones, game systems, motorized yard equipment, power tools, bicycles, cameras, CD players, radios and etc. We even recommend you consider adhering an ID tag to your key ring, key fob, wallet and passport.

WARNING: Do not adhere ID tags to wood, silver, jewelry, guns or any other property that has inherent value that would be diminished by the application of an industrial adhesive.

Can I add brands, models and serial numbers to my account?
After you have applied your ID tags, we encourage you to take the extra step of logging into your online account and adding information about your property. By entering serial numbers and other descriptions of your property, you have additional information to provide law enforcement in the event of a theft or burglary.
What if I have leftover I.D. tags and warning labels?
That’s okay. You will probably buy something soon and need an ID tag. Maybe you’ll move and need a few warning labels. Keep all the leftovers in the original envelope. Even print out a copy of your account information and keep it there too.
Can I use I.D. tags on portable items I carry around with me?
Only if you feel safe doing so. If someone finds your item, they can enter the ID tag number on our website and an automatically generated email will be sent to you. Your privacy is protected unless you choose to contact that third party. It’s your property and your personal safety. What do I use to clean surfaces?
Alcohol, window cleaner or any household cleaner. This removes grease or other materials that could come between the adhesive layer of your ID tags and your property. Remember: dry the area thoroughly before applying ID tags.
Do I need to dry the area?
Yes. Rub the surface completely dry before adhering your ID tags. Do not adhere your ID tags to any kind of wet surface.
Can I touch the I.D. tag adhesive?
The adhesive on the back of your ID tags is not dangerous, but debris on your fingers can interfere with the effectiveness of the adhesive.
Do I put the I.D. tags in a visible or out-of-the-way location?
Our advice is to mix it up. If you are comfortable having the ID tag showing on the front of an individual piece of property, that’s fine. Placing it on the back is fine too. If you hide an ID tag on your property, remember to record the secret location in the online database.
What else can I do in my online account?

  • Buy another security kit for yourself.
  • Print or email updated registry entries.
Why do I need labels on my home’s exterior?
Would-be burglars will only know that your property is protected with ID tags when you place labels on the exterior of your home. Be sure to adhere the labels to clean, smooth exterior surfaces. And please note, once labels are applied, they are difficult to remove.
Why do I need window clings on interior glass?
You want would-be burglars to know that your property is protected, so place the window clings on clean interior glass surfaces facing outward in plain site.

Where are the hidden costs?
There are no hidden costs to our system. It’s just a onetime payment with no hidden fees. In the age of the internet, the playing field has been leveled between big businesses and small businesses. Because the business is so small, with just a few contractors and no investors, all of the savings get passed on to you.
What are the sizes of the ID tags and warning labels?
ID tags come ten per sheet: four 2.25″ x 1.0″, four 1.75″ x .75″, two 1.5″ x 0.5″. Exterior labels come in two sizes: 5″ x 3″ and 4″ x 2.5″. Interior window clings are 3″ x 2″. (Sizes are in inches.) (We do not provide yard signs because they are prone to theft.)
Why don't you include yard signs?
We do not provide yard signs because they are prone to theft. The warning labels, if applied correctly, are very difficult to remove and are just as effective.
Can I order additional kits?
Yes. Additional sets will be added to your existing account. Just log into your account and go to the product page to order again.
How does any of this deter burglaries?

The term “marked” means property has been tagged in some way and the serial numbers registered. Labels and window clings are a warning that let burglars know that your property is a bad target. Burglars know that being caught with marked property is like being caught with marked money. It’s strong evidence against them, and burglary middlemen (fences) don’t like to handle marked items either.

What's the difference between theft, burglary and robbery?
Theft is the unauthorized taking of property when there is nobody present as a witness.

Burglary is the unlawful entry into a domicile for the purposes of theft when no one is thought to be there. 250,000 burglaries turn violent each year because someone is home or walks in on the crime.

Robbery involves violent threats and physical force against individuals and groups who are present at the time of a crime.

How often do burglaries occur?
There are about 8 million burglaries per year in the United States. Burglaries are by far the most common crime in shear numbers. They are also more traumatizing than most people understand. Just ask a victim. Also, there is more than just the burglary. Doors, locks and windows may be damaged and your property trashed. Lastly it is thought that only half of burglaries ever get reported, so double the reported numbers.

Because citizens don’t record serial numbers or mark property, only around 10% of burglaries are ever solved. Because a car’s VIN is always recorded and the vehicle tagged and titled, 60% are recovered.

What are the costs associated with burglaries?
You cannot put a price on the inconvenience, hassle, frustration, anxiety and fear you have after your home has been ransacked and your property stolen. In addition, you will be faced with the out-of-pocket expenses for repairs and replacement of the stolen property. It is estimated that the average cost of a burglary is around $2000.

Why should I register with a personal email address?
We recommend that you use a personal email to register your account. When you change jobs or graduate, your email address will be closed. At a later time, if a Good Samaritan or the police recover an item belonging to you, the email link between you and your property is gone.
Can this be used as a lost and found?
Most people will make an effort to return lost property. Our asset tags are preregistered the instant an order is placed. Once adhered, honest people have an easy and convenient way to send you a secure email that protects your privacy, yet alerts you to where your lost property is located. Please use caution when recovering your property such as meeting in a public place during business hours. See our Personal Safety page for further details.
Does the database have backup?
We encourage our users to always backup their database entries. It’s easy. On the database page is an option to print or email a backup copy for your records. Through our service provider and hosting service, we have multiple backups as well.
Why should I have a printout when the information is stored on your database?
It’s always a good idea to have backup. We recommend printing updated registry information and keeping it filed in the shipping envelope along with extra labels and the instruction sheet. We also recommend that you email yourself a copy as another form of backup. Remember, you can always login to MyPropertyID to update your registry.
What do I do if my property is stolen?
Contact the police. The first question they will ask is, Do you have a record of serial numbers and is your property marked? You are ready to the help the police. Print out a copy of your asset tag numbers and serial numbers. See our Personal Safety webpage for further details.
If I live in an apartment or dorm room, how do I warn burglars?
Place a warning label on your door, and if you have a patio or window facing out, use a window cling there.
If I live up high in an apartment or dorm room, is there a point to applying window cling warning signs?

Yes. Burglars case a property before breaking in. If the burglar is on the ground floor or in another apartment or dorm room, seeing the window cling label will act as a deterrent.

What is an insurance deductible?
An insurance deductible is the amount of money you must pay out-of-pocket before your insurance will cover you. Homeowners insurance deductibles typically range from $250 to $2,500.
Why do I need to register my property if I have homeowners insurance?
You have worked hard to make a safe home for yourself, so why not do what you can to keep it protected by using MyPropertyID? Recovering from a burglary is about much more than the money. Remember, there will be the inconvenience, hassle, frustration, anxiety and fear associated with a burglary.
How can registering my property reduce insurance rates?
Homeowners insurance policies have the cost of a potential burglary built into the pricing. If overall burglaries are reduced, rates could level off or come down.
Can I buy this as a gift?
My Property ID Registry does not offer a gift option. Our product is akin to a license plate and must be ordered by the person who will use it. Our product must never be given away as a gift. If the product is ordered in the wrong way, the evidence will not hold up in court. It’s all about the chain of custody.
Should I use this product as a stand-alone security system?
We recommend that our product be used with additional or existing security measures. This is called layered security. There are dozens of ways to secure your home. From locking doors and windows to expensive, high-tech security systems; from reinforced locks and hinges to motion detecting cameras. Mix-and-match to keep criminals guessing.
Are there any warnings that come with the use of the security kit?
