The Code to a Broken Lock is a modern-day parable that is captured in the Facebook post below. Lost and stolen property is recovered routinely by Good Samaritans who desperately want to see it reunited with its rightful owner. Now, there is a simple internet-based strategy for getting it back to you more conveniently.
A modern day parable
The lock is broken. Cut through like butter. When you are quite certain your property has disappeared forever, a savior suddenly appears. All you need to do is enter the code. This is the story of the power and thrill of being reunited with your property in the hands of a Good Samaritan.
Back to work today, forgot my pass so locked bike outside Cannon Street station [London]. Left work at 6 pm to find just the cut lock and no bike. Resigned to never seeing my trusty stead again, asked the station if they have cameras. A guy appeared waving at me, asked me to put the code into my cut lock. He replied ‘I have your bike’ with a smile. I will never forget!! His name is Abdul and he works for South Eastern Railways [England]. He was on a break and saw a guy bolt cut the lock and challenged him to give it back. He then took it inside and waited 4 hours after his shift finished to personally make sure I got my bike back. The world needs more Abduls. He is a legend of a man and a credit to his employer.

The Inspiration for MyPropertyID
Decades ago, I drove a cab in New York City. When somebody left something in the backseat, I would go to any lengths to get it back to them. In 2016, when I modernized the 1960s-era Operation ID strategy into a modern internet-based tracing and recovery tool, I knew I could better connect Good Samaritans with the valuables they recover.
